The much anticipated Esports World Cup 2024 finally began on July 3, with a few events among the 21 games underway. While the MLBB Mid Season Cup 2024 started on June 28 with its Wildcard stage, the main event began a couple of days later, with the opening ceremony attracting almost 200K Peak Viewers thanks to the involvement of the likes of Tyler1, xQc, and shroud.
Over the past three days, competitions in prominent games like Dota 2, MLBB, Call of Duty: Warzone, and League of Legends began. The action will go on till August 25, with the esports organization with the most numbers of cumulative points (based on their performances across all the titles) being declared the winner of the Club Championship.
So far, MLBB and LoL have put up the highest numbers when it comes to peak viewership. The latter also became the first game to pass the 1 million Peak Viewers mark at the EWC 2024. In fact, these two titles have by far been the most popular competitions to be held, which is unsurprising given they are constantly in the top two annually for the top events by this metric.
Moreover, three tournaments have crossed the one million Hours Watched threshold, with the Riyadh Masters 2024 joining the two names mentioned above. For those not in the know, this Dota 2 event carries the highest prize pool among all the events at the Esports World Cup 2024 with $5 million on offer in total.
The overall prize purse at this cross-event spectacle is a massive $60 million, out of which $20 million has been kept aside for the Club Championship. With this system seeing the entry of many popular Western orgs into games considered more popular in Asia, it will be interesting to see how the action over the next eight weeks pans out and who comes out on top as the best club in the world.
